Redleaf is teaming up with multifamily heavyweight Greystar on a 300-unit apartment complex with 5000-sf of ground floor retail. Locally, Greystar has developed several notable projects including Lamar Union and is currently building a 350-unit mixed-use projectin the MLK Station TOD.

Austin Community College (ACC) acquired the Highland Mall parcels between 2010 and 2011 with plans to transform the dying mall into a vibrant flagship campus surrounded by mixed-use development. To help realize their vision, ACC has partnered with private developers including Redleaf to transform over 40 acres of existing parking lots into residential, retail, hospitality, office, and parkland.

Phase I of the ACC Highland campus opened to students in the fall of 2014. Construction on Phase II, a “regional workforce innovation center” has recently commenced. That $152.8-Million project is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

The Greystar mixed-use project is scheduled to open in 2017. Austin-based design firms Michael Hsu Office of Architecture and BIG RED DOG Engineering are among the firms responsible for the design. Stay tuned to BuildingATX as we continue to follow the transformation of the Highland District.
